The Big Lap: 2025-2026

In 2025, Jazmina and her husband Jonas embarked upon their long-held fantasy of a year-long road trip around Australia. Faced with twelve months in a small caravan with no studio access, Jazmina had to conceive of art projects that would be achievable on the road and within the 60 x 60cm workspace of the caravan's table, while minimising her environmental footprint.

Encouraged by her previous forays into portable art-making whilst co-leading study tours to Japan in 2023 and 2024, Jazmina set herself three projects for the year: Incidental Souvenirs, comprising collaged postcards made entirely from the consumer packaging she and her husband generated in the course of their travels; Flora: Colour Fields, a tataki-zome inspired book and postcards featuring abstract 'landscapes' from flowers gathered along the way; and The Big Lap, a book from frottages (rubbings) of surfaces encountered along the way, charting the epic nature of the journey. Somewhere in there, Jazmina also had to come up with an edition of 56 relief prints for a Rona Green exchange portfolio. You will find documentation of the edition in progress here.

Armed with pre-torn kozo paper, a healthy stash of coloured pencils, hammer, cutting mat and collage tools Jazmina set off into unknown creative territory with Jonas and their dog Snukis as they embarked on the adventure of a lifetime. Links to visual documentation of each of the projects is available below. These will be updated throughout the road trip so stay tuned to the individual blogs to follow Jazmina's creative odyssey.

Collaged postcards created entirely from packaging and paper waste that was generated in the course of travelling for twelve months around Australia. Click here for images of the postcards in progress and here for documentation of the final objects

Flora: Colour Fields

Postcards and artist book created using the natural dyes found in flowers gathered along the way. Inspired by the Japanese tradition of tataki-zome or flower pounding using a hammer as well as a miniature press.
