Lagerphones are the quintessential mainstay of the Australian bush band, traditionally created from beer caps hammered to an old broom stick. Jazmina began making lagerphones for the Melbourne-Lithuanian folk ensemble, The Lost Clog, when she joined the group as a folksinger in 2010. Made in the form of Baltic nature motifs, the instruments were originally intended as a visual and musical prop for The Lost Clog's performances, as well as a tongue-in-cheek nod towards the group's Australian-Lithuanian cultural heritage. The lagerphones have since taken on a life of their own, enabling the artist to indulge her natural bower bird instincts, as well as her desire to engage with more environmentally sustainable art practices. Below you will find a gallery of individual lagerphones, as well as studio photos of lagerphones in progress and a video produced by Museums Victoria following the acquisition of one of Jazmina's lagerphones to the collection.
